Supplies/Surfaces
Shader paintbrushes, assorted sizes
Random marking tools (texture comb, old credit card, finger, anything with tip, brayer, etc.)
Paper towels
Water container
Palette or plastic plate
Assorted stencils
Permanent black marker pen (medium tip)
6” x 6” gallery wrapped canvas
Instructions
1. Apply thick coat of Faux Finishing Medium with larger shader brush to front and sides of canvas. Make texture marks with texture comb or anything that can make marks or pattern. Let dry thoroughly.
2. Apply random layers of paint on front and sides of canvas with damp large shader brush or brayer, trying not to blend each color with others; use Medium Red Rose, Blue Green Light, and Titanium White.
3. When still wet, wipe some paint away with dry paper towel to bring out
texture of faux finish. Let dry.
4. Using stencils of your choice, stencil over parts of canvas with paint color of your choice for second layer. Let dry.
5. Outline cup and sun template with pencil onto canvas. Refer to photo for placement.
6. Paint cup and sun with paint color of your choice, making them darker on one side for shading. Use Titanium white to lighten colors for highlights; use Burnt Sienna and Titanium White for coffee inside cup. Let dry.
7. Paint some flowers and polka dots on cup using Glorious Gold for accent color. (Use handle end of paintbrush to create dots.)
8. Edge canvas with finger and Glorious Gold. Let dry.
9. Outline sun and cup with black marker.
10. Computer-generate words “Start the Day Out Right” and adhere to canvas with Americana Satin DecouPage Glue. Apply DecouPage on top of words. Let dry.
11. When dry, outline words with marker.
12. When all is dry, apply two coats of DuraClear Satin Varnish.
13. (Optional) Add kitchen knob or handle to top of canvas for accent.
