Supplies - Brush basin, palette, paper towels, sea sponge, old toothbrush, tracing & transfer paper, pencil or stylus
Stacking DC&C papier mache boxes (6", 5", 4" & 3")
      
Instructions
    
PREPARATION
1. Transfer patterns to each box.

2. Basecoat straw on all boxes with #6 shader and Asphaltum. Using liner brush, add highlights in Golden Straw and Antique White.

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
6" Box
1. Basecoat body of rooster Blue Haze with #6 shader.

2. Use small strokes with the 1/4" rake brush and Blue Mist to add feathers on the body and tail. Shade body and tail with Graphite and shader brush.

3. Basecoat head, wattle and comb Rookwood Red, shade with Graphite and highlight with liner brush and Light Cinnamon.

4. Basecoat beak and legs Moon Yellow; shade with Graphite. Outline eye with Graphite and dot highlight with Buttermilk.

5. Basecoat baby chick Buttermilk; shade with Moon Yellow. Outline eyes with Graphite; add Buttermilk dot highlight.

6. Paint chick's beak and legs Moon Yellow; shade with Graphite. Add fluffy feather detail with liner brush and Graphite.

5" Box
1. Basecoat hen Neutral Grey. Shade and add feather detail with Graphite, rake brush and liner.

2. Highlight body feathers with thinned Buttermilk. Basecoat face, wattle and comb with Rookwood Red. Highlight with Light Cinnamon.

3. Basecoat beak Moon Yellow.

4. Basecoat eggs Buttermilk; shade with thinned Light Cinnamon.

4" Box
Paint chicks according to instructions for 6" box.

3" Box
Basecoat eggs Buttermilk; shade with thinned Light Cinnamon.

Background on all boxes
1. Sponge front around chickens with Ice Blue, leaving unpainted border around birds.

2. Rinse sponge and thin Blue Haze; sponge randomly over Ice Blue.

3. Rinse sponge and use Camel to sponge back and sides of boxes. Thin Antique White and sponge randomly over Camel to give texture.

4. With Graphite thinned to inky consistency, spatter* each box with old toothbrush.

Lids
1. Sponge all with Copper.

2. Rinse sponge and use Teal Green to sponge small areas to resemble patina.

3. Rinse sponge and use Graphite to darken and antique random areas.

FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Sponge on a 1:1 mix of Control Medium and Asphaltum. Wipe off with paper towels to desired effect.

2. Seal with DuraClear Satin.
